Martha's Story

Mother, Grandmother, wife and full-time carer to her husband who is medically unfit to work, Martha had a lot on her plate well before her Papillary Thyroid cancer diagnosis.

Martha's Story

"I used to be a business professional, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would become medically disabled in my late 40's."

"Life has changed dramatically, and I am unfortunately no longer able to work."

Dealing with the reality of a cancer diagnosis and the great impact it has on one’s life and abilities, Martha herself became disabled and in turn, was made redundant from her job. Leaving sole earner, Martha, unemployed, unwell and still the full-time carer to her memory impaired husband.

Thankfully, Martha’s broker, whom she remains in close contact with after 11 years, offered a Loan Protection Plan when they purchased their first home in Australia. When asked what Martha and her husband would have done had they not had Loan Protection, she said “I don’t even want to think about it.” 

“The claim has alleviated the financial burden to a great degree and gives us a breather to decide what the next best step is.”

Having made her claim, Martha and her husband are now able to take a year out for themselves to decide ‘where to next’. Unsure of how her disease will progress, Martha and her husband now have some of the financial burden lifted, allowing them to think about the next step in housing.

“Stress exacerbates my condition and the fast and efficient way this was dealt with gave me one less thing to stress about.”

Martha found the ALI Group process fast and efficient. Saying, “from the time I submitted the claim and Colette [ALI’s Claims Officer], got in touch with me, it was an absolute pleasure dealing with her. It’s never nice to revisit bad times but Colette made it easy and her guidance was great. Colette did not make me feel like another number and I feel like ALI actually cared”.
