ALI Group pledges $25 to the Breast Cancer Network Australia, for every new female policyholder in the month of October.
In 2019, it is estimated that 19,371 women and 164 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. While survival rates have improved, of that number, it is still estimated that 3,058 women and 32 men will die from the disease every year1.
What’s more, in Australia, testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men, and 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer by the age of 75 years-old2.
ALI Group, leading provider of loan and mortgage protection to Australian home and property buyers is pledging to donate $25 to the Breast Cancer Network Australia
(BCNA), for every woman who takes out an ALI loan protection policy through their mortgage broker this October. A similar pledge has been made for November, in support of Men’s health, with $25 going toward the
Movember Foundation, for every man who takes out a policy during this time.
ALI hope to raise at least $15,000 for each cause, with all proceeds raised going directly to BCNA and Movember Foundation. This goal however cannot be achieved without the support of their nationwide network of authorised brokers – who are the ones having the important face-to-face conversations with their clients.
Huy Truong, ALI Group CEO says, “we are rallying support from brokers to ensure they continue having strong conversations with their clients about their protection needs. Having the face-to-face conversation with clients entering a large debt is the optimal time to ask the questions, what would you or your family do if you fell seriously ill, or even passed away? How would you manage your mortgage repayments, bills, living expenses and then expensive treatment on top of that? These simple questions could bring vulnerable financial areas to the surface and see to financial hardship being avoided.”
Many Australians may be unaware of the cost of cancer and the financial impact it can have on themselves and those around them. It’s reported the average overall cost to a household is an estimated $48,0003. Moreover, 72% of cancer carers report a negative financial impact of caring and more than half of carers who work full time must leave their job or reduce their working hours4.
With more than half of all Australian households spending their entire monthly income, and one in five unsure they could raise $3,000 in an emergency, the impact these illnesses have on a household financially can be catastrophic.
In a survey of ALI Group’s own recent claims data, 5current as of June 30, 2019, cancer makes up 75% of living benefit claims and 43% of death benefit claims by policy holders – all of whom were at some point home and property buyers going through the loan process with their broker, cancer being the last thing on their mind.

Update: BCNA and ALI Group extend partnership over Christmas
ALI Group and Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) will continue their partnership through October and into December. ALI Group’s investment of over $20,000 will go toward supporting the BCNA Christmas Donation Drive, known as the 53 hours of Giving.
The “53 hours of Giving” represents the 53 Australians who will be diagnosed every day in the lead up to Christmas. During the 53 hours, BCNA will call on the public to raise $60,000 for the cause, with an additional three partners, including ALI, who will be matching the public donations.
The hopes to raise $120,000 in total, will mean the BCNA, who usually close over the Christmas break, will be able to extend their helpline services, and continue supporting those affected by breast cancer.
Unfortunately, the reality is, breast cancer doesn’t take a break over the Christmas period and for the 2,000 and more Australian families dealing with the news their partner, mother or sister has breast cancer, they will turn to the BCNA for support. So, ensuring the BCNA is there to be, is crucial.
